Guy Ritchie’s Only Billion-Dollar Blockbuster Beaten by 2025’s Biggest Breakout Hit
Director Guy Ritchie's career in the last decade is marked by a handful of failed franchise-starters, some of which have done well, while others haven't. The one stand-out is arguably his unlikeliest film, Disney's live-action Aladdin remake. Ritchie was best known for his profane and violent gangster dramas when he signed on to direct the children's film, which came on the heels of hit remakes such as Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book. Aladdin remains his biggest hit, with over $1 billion at the global box office. But it was recently overtaken by Disney's latest blockbuster, Zootopia 2. The animated sequel has broken records during the course of its theatrical run, and was able to pass the coveted $1 billion mark in just 17 days. The film's global haul now stands at $1.1 billion.
