HEINZ-GLAS invests €13 million in electric furnace at German plant
THE WHAT? HEINZ-GLAS has inaugurated a new electric glass melting furnace at its Kleintettau plant in Germany.
THE DETAILS The new furnace, named “Josephine,” represents an investment of approximately €13 million and replaces an older unit following a 14-week construction process. The project involved dismantling the previous furnace and installing hundreds of tonnes of new materials. The electric furnace operates entirely on CO₂-free electricity, aligning with the company’s broader transition to fully electric glass melting across its German sites since 2024. Production has already commenced, marking a significant milestone in the company’s manufacturing operations.
THE WHY? The investment supports HEINZ-GLAS’s sustainability strategy by reducing emissions and modernising production infrastructure, while ensuring long-term efficiency and competitiveness in glass manufacturing.
