EU Leaders Meet Zelensky in Cyprus as €90 Billion Loan Is Unlocked
European Union leaders are set to meet Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky in Cyprus on Thursday, to mark the release of the €90 billion loan for Kyiv.
Preliminary approval for the funding was reached on Wednesday, with final confirmation expected before talks take place at Ayia Napa marina. The financial support is intended to assist Ukraine over the coming years, particularly in 2026 and 2027.
Officials indicated that discussions in Cyprus will extend beyond Ukraine. Leaders are also expected to address developments in the Middle East and the broader economic impact of ongoing conflicts, including rising energy prices.
The meeting takes place as Cyprus holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union.
