EU Lawmakers Call for Action Against Migrant Grooming Gangs
A group of European lawmakers is calling for greater EU-level attention on the issue of organized sexual exploitation networks following the submission of a motion for a European Parliament resolution on “the need to combat migrant grooming gangs.”
The initiative, circulated by Swedish MEP Charlie Weimers, vice-chair of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Group—who recently launched a “migration map” showing which municipalities have the most immigrants in Sweden—in an open letter urges EU institutions and member states to strengthen efforts against criminal networks involved in the sexual exploitation of minors.
The proposed resolution refers to reports and inquiries into grooming gang cases in the United Kingdom, including investigations into large-scale child sexual exploitation scandals.
The motion argues that similar cases should be examined across Europe to determine the scale of the problem and ensure perpetrators face criminal consequences.
The letter calls on the EU to support member states in combating organized sexual abuse networks and encourages countries to consider stronger measures against foreign nationals convicted of serious sexual offenses, including possible deportation where legally applicable.
