American authorities close antitrust investigation into Symrise
THE WHAT? The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) has formally closed its antitrust investigation into Symrise.
THE DETAILS In a letter dated February 5, 2026, the DoJ informed Symrise that it was ending its investigation, confirming that no unlawful practices had been found. Symrise stated it had consistently denied participating in any illegal agreements with competitors in the fragrance business and maintained from the outset that it should not have been included in the probe. The company reiterated its commitment to ethical business practices and regulatory compliance, and said it hopes similar investigations by other authorities will also be discontinued.
THE WHY? The decision removes regulatory pressure from Symrise and supports its longstanding position that it did not engage in anti-competitive conduct within the fragrance sector.
