The public's view of J.J. Abrams has evolved over the years. He went from being the go-to reviver of franchises with back-to-back successes with Mission: Impossible III and Star Trek, to then having a monster hit with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and then doing what he could with The Rise of Skywalker. Even though Abrams has become so closely associated with massive franchise films, it's the smallest project he's done that may be his best: Super8.
