Danish PM Urges Europe to Strengthen Defences Immediately
Paris: the Danish Prime Minister said on Wednesday, January 28th that Europe must strengthen its defences immediately to become less reliant on the United States.
Speaking at Sciences Po university, Mette Frederiksen highlighted Europe’s dependence on U.S. intelligence and nuclear capabilities—but stressed that more could be done now.
Frederiksen criticized past military budget cuts and rejected long-term spending plans, saying waiting until 2035 would be too late. Her remarks come after NATO chief Mark Rutte dismissed the idea that Europe could defend itself without U.S. support.
Frederiksen and Greenland’s premier were scheduled to meet French president Emmanuel Macron later Wednesday to discuss defence and security cooperation.
