Senior Obama DEA official caught laundering money for notorious Mexican drug cartel Top ex-Drug Enforcement Agency official Paul Campo and an accomplice were arrested and indicted on terrorism, narcoterrorism, narcotics distribution and money laundering charges this week. The US Attorney for the Southern District of NY charging the pair with agreeing to launder $12M for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, one of Mexico’s most notorious criminal syndicates. The two men are accused of having laundered “hundreds of thousands of dollars they believed to be CJNG drug proceeds, agreed to launder millions more, and even agreed to use their financial expertise to facilitate cocaine trafficking right here in New York City,” Attorney Jay Clayton said. “By participating in this scheme, Campo betrayed the mission he was entrusted with pursuing for his 25-year career with the DEA,” Clayton said. Campo, who was appointed to the role of deputy chief of the DEA’s Office of Financial Operations in 2013, and continued to hold security clearances after quitting the agency in 2016 and setting up financial consultation service Global Financial Consultants, faces life in jail if convicted on all counts. #usa #dea #mexico #paulcampo #drugcartel
